Local counties cross 40 percent vaccination rate
The state vaccine tracker website reports that most upper Hudson Valley counties have dosed 40 percent of adults with at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine. The exceptions: Rensselear and Greene counties. Rensselaer County will probably cross the threshold today, as it was at 39.8 percent on April 12. Greene County had just 37 percent vaccinated at that time. The news was better elsewhere, with Albany County at 45.4 percent, Ulster County at 44.9 percent, Columbia County at 41.9 percent, and Dutchess County at 40.4 percent. Schoharie County, at 32.1 percent, and Delaware County, at 31.7 percent, continued to trail other local counties. Scientists estimate 70 or 80 percent vaccine rates are needed to achieve herd immunity, so the region is about half way there. Statewide, 37.9 percent of adults have received at least one dose, while 24.9 percent are fully vaccinated.
