Durham town lawyer wants solar law

Feb 17, 2018 12:10 am
Audrey Matott reports in The Greenville Pioneer that the Durham Town Attorney Tal Rappleyea wants the town to adopt a solar use law as many solar farms have been applying to do business throughout Greene County. Rappleyea will get more hourly fees with more regulation in the town. He proposed at the Feb. 6 town meeting that proposed solar farms take on a payment in lieu of taxes, or PILOT, instead of the blanket tax exemption that solar projects now get under state law. Town Supervisor Shawn Marriott said he liked Rappleyea's proposal, and wants anyone interested in joining a committee to craft a local solar law to contact him at 518-992-6543 or supervisormarriott@durhamny.com.
