David Lombardo reports in the Albany Times Union that Democrats say they only need to flip one Republican-held State Senate seat in the Nov. 6 election to take control of the chamber. "We have one seat to defend and about a dozen that we can flip, and we only need to flip one," said Democratic Senate Campaign Committee Chairman Mike Gianaris. "We're feeling pretty good." Locally there are two State Senate elections of note. Republican Kathy Marchione, unexpectedly announced her retirement from the 43rd Senate District seat this spring. Her aide, Republican Daphne Jordan is trying to hold the seat, but Democrat Aaron Gladd has raised more money in the campaign so far. July filings show Gladd has received more than $132,000 in donations, more than twice the $48,000 collected by Jordan. In the 46th State Senate District, Democratic candidate Pat Strong is challenging Republican incumbent George Amedore. Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk won the seat in 2012 when Obama was elected, then lost to Amedore in 2014 during a Republican wave election.
