Andrea Macko is reporting for Porcupine Soup Ella Schoenborn [sh Ay ne-born] of Coxsackie has donated more than 27,000 non-perishable food items and 3,200 dozen eggs to food pantries, churches, and those in need across Greene County and the Capital District. The 12-year-old student founded the organization Projectella in 2018. Her mission is to feed those who need to be fed. The Holy Names Academy student was presented May 17, with a special public service award by Assemblymember Chris Tague [TAY-gh] and Greene County Sheriff Pete Kusminsky. “It was my honor to join Sheriff Pete Kusminsky in presenting Ella Schoenborn with a citation honoring all she’s done for those in need, especially during the most uncertain period of the COVID-19 pandemic when her help was needed most,” said the Schoharie Republican. Three years ago, Schoenborn began collecting bottles and cans and using nickel returns to purchase food from places like Restaurant Depo and Freihofer’s outlets. Since then, and with the support of donations, Projectella has grown. Last week alone, Schoenborn gave 240 dozen eggs to food pantries in Coxsackie, Athens and Cairo, and to Street Soldiers, a non-profit that feeds the homeless in Albany, Schenectady and Troy.
