Germantown board election short on candidates
Debby Mayer is reporting in The Columbia Paper Germantown Board of Education has two vacancies and only one candidate in the May 16 election. Board president Tammi Kellenbenz is running for a new four-year term, but one year remains on the term of former board member Jeremy Smith, and Faydra Geraghty, who was appointed to fill Smith's seat until the election, has declined to run. Voters can write in a candidate of their choice next Tuesday, or the board can appoint a new member following the election. “I’m disappointed, and surprised,” said Ralph DelPozzo, a four-term member of the board. “I would like to think that [the lack of candidates] is because people are satisfied with the current board,” Kellenbenz wrote in an email to the paper. “I do think people are more apt to become involved when there is a controversy." In addition to the board election, voters will be asked to ratify a $14.7 million budget proposal for the 2017-18 school year that includes a tax levy increase of 2.7 percent. Polls are open at the school at 123 Main Street, between noon and 9 p.m., Tue., May 16. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
