Wendy Liberatore is reporting for the Times Union based on state Board of Election campaign finance filings, 43rd Senate District candidate, Democrat Aaron Gladd has emerged stronger than his opponent, Republican Daphne Jordan. July filings show Gladd has received more than $132,000 in donations, more than twice the $48,000 collected by Jordan. This has led to speculation that the traditionally red district could go blue this year, despite Jordan's connection to Sen. Kathy Marchione, who announced her retirement in April. Jordan, 59, of Halfmoon, says her experience as a small business owner of retail stores and a medical billing business give her an edge. She is currently a member of the Halfmoon Town Board. Jordan intends to address high property taxes and eliminate regulations that hurt businesses, if elected. Gladd, 32 of Brunswick, has spent his life in public service, working with Democratic Congressman Michael McNulty and Republican Senator Tom Libous. Most recently, he worked for Gov. Andrew Cuomo as the former deputy director of policy. If elected, Gladd would push for affordable healthcare for all and more investment in education and protecting the environment. Both say they want to eliminate Albany corruption and improve the lives of veterans. Voters will choose between the two on Nov. 6. The 43rd Senate District includes Columbia and Rensselaer counties and portions of Saratoga and Washington counties. Read the full story in the Times Union.
