New York offshore wind efforts will mean jobs in Coeymans, Albany
Nov 21, 2019 12:33 am
Nick Reisman reports for New York State of Politics that New York’s plan to build turbines to harvest offshore wind around Long Island will mean many jobs at ports in Coeymans and Albany. Wind turbines are too big to build on Long Island, so many will be built at the Ports of Albany and Coeymans, and shipped down the Hudson River. Enough turbines to create 9000 megawatts of offshore wind by 2025 is the goal of the state’s Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act. That's enough to power six million households, and should mean lots of jobs in Albany County. Much of the hiring will begin in 2020 to build secondary steel components including stairs and platforms, and gravity-based foundations for wind turbines.
