In-person classes to resume for some Hudson students

Feb 02, 2021 3:30 pm

Jeanette Wolfberg is reporting for The Columbia Paper Hudson High School juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to attend in-person classes for the first time since last March, district Superintendent Maria L. Suttmeier recently announced. Seniors can attend on Monday and Tuesday, juniors on Thursday and Friday. But while third through fifth graders, have been able to attend class in-person since September, they recently had a period of all-remote classes for several days “due to lack of staff to bring them safely in,” said Suttmeier. The district robotics team is able to use a classroom every Saturday, and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office are permitted to use the high school pool on weekends during the month of February “for training first responders for the dive team,” Suttmeier confirmed. The athletic fields are being prepared for the sports that may resume in the spring. The thorough cleaning of facilities after any use applies to weekends as well as weekdays. In board of education news, member Justin Elliott has submitted his letter of resignation, citing other commitments. Given the timing of his departure, the board has opted to wait and fill his position following the May 18 annual board election. Elliott’s term will expire in 2022, so the person chosen by the voters to take his place will serve for a one-year period. Elliott joined the board in 2019. “We really will miss him,” said Suttmeier. “He was a very active member of the board. Thank-you Justin.” Read more in The Columbia Paper.
