During a portion of this edition of the Everything Is Real Radio program, listeners will hear Part 1 of Galactic Nightmare by Alan Jefferson. When Jefferson first heard Jeff Wayne's epic musical version of War of the Worlds, he decided to create his own sci-fi story, working in his bedroom in Hull, England with a Moog, reel-to-reel tape, a guitar and some pedals. After 6 years, in 1985 he released a 90-minute cassette, advertised in the back of some magazines like Future Music.

Decades later the entire recording has been released (2015) in 4 parts as a 2LP on Trunk Records. Jefferson wrote the story, narrated the story, wrote and played the music, sang the songs, and made the artwork, poster, storyfile, etc, sometimes fighting against faulty equipment and a broken-down tape machine. Galactic Nightmare is a totally unique recording, joyous in its attempt to create something absolutely epic with very few resources and charming in its attention to detail and almost folk-like naiveté. A great example of an amateur being inspired to make something, getting on with it, sticking with it, and ultimately creating an album that few people will forget once they have heard it. Future EIRR broadcasts will feature the rest of Galactic Nightmare.
