The Times Union is reporting the regional airline Cape Air, which has a maintenance base at Albany International Airport, is the first airline to order an all-electric aircraft. The prototype of the plane debuted at the Paris Air Show last week. The Hyannis, Mass.-based carrier has ordered the all-electric Alice being built by Israel-based Eviation Aircraft. The carrier hopes to have the aircraft enter service as early as 2022. "The integration of Alice into our fleet is much further down the road," said Trish Lorino, vice president, Marketing & Public Relations, for Cape Air. "Test flights have not begun. They are years from certification and taking this to market." The nine-passenger aircraft is expected to cost approximately $4 million and would have a range of 650 miles and travel at 276 miles per hour. It was not clear what role Cape Air's Albany base might play in maintaining the aircraft. Alice will run on three electric motors, each driving a propeller, at its two wingtips and its tail.
