Permit now required for use of Ulster Co. swimming hole

Jun 28, 2018 6:45 am
William J. Kemble is reporting for the Daily Freeman use of the Blue Hole swimming area in Denning, Ulster County, now requires a permit. The state Department of Environmental Conservation announced June 27, swimming will be limited to 240 people daily. The DEC will provide a maximum of 40 permits each day, good for up to six people per permit, to use the swimming hole on Peekamoose Road, from May 15 through October 15, each year. The permit system has been in the works for at least two years, largely due to the significant amounts of trash left behind by people using Blue Hole. In June 2017, the DEC said the large, deep, cold swimming area was at risk of overuse due to its popularity. The permits are free and available online at newyorkstateparks [dot] reserveamerica [dot] com; they must be obtained a minimum of 24 hours in advance. Walk-in permits are not available.
