John Cropley reports in the Daily Gazette that the Greene County exits on the New York State Thruway had gantry structures installed Feb. 25-26, so that toll booths can be eliminated later this year. The $355 million project will tear down all toll booths along the Thurway. Instead, cameras will scan car license plates and drivers will be sent a bill through the mail or charged on their E-Z Pass accounts. “Our primary goal is to improve mobility and reduce travel times for customers,” said Eric Christensen, deputy director of operations for the New York Thruway Authority.
