Emilia Teasdale is reporting for The Columbia Paper Ichabod Crane Superintendent Suzanne Guntlow provided an update to the district's reopening plan at the August 18, meeting of the board of education. Guntlow reported that parents and guardians who choose all remote learning for their children in kindergarten through the 8th grade will be taught by ICCSD teachers. She said the plan for high school students is more complicated. For secondary students who choose fully remote learning, the superintendent admitted it proven to be a scheduling challenge. Guntlow said at this point they are not sure if remote high school classes will be taught by Ichabod teachers or a teacher from another district. A notice on the district website reads, “For 9-12 full remote learning, we are working with Questar III BOCES to determine the best option for teachers. More information will be forthcoming.” The district held online meetings with parents and building principals last week. Administrators answered parents questions at those meetings and Guntlow said the district has posted a set of FAQs at ichabodcrane [dot] org. She said that although students enrolled in 4th grade and up would receive a Chromebook laptop from the district, families of younger students were asked to take a technology survey about need. She said any student who needs a laptop computer would have one. Guntlow also said the district is installing temperature check devices on district buses. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
