Liz Schaeffer reports in The Greenville Pioneer that State Police Senior Investigator Peter Kusminsky and Diana Benoit, also a retired State Police senior investigator, are running for the Republican nomination for Greene County Sheriff. No Democrats, so far, have stepped forward to try and fill the seat now held by Sheriff Greg Seeley, who has served since 2010. “I have been a public servant for my entire adult life,” Kusminsky said. “I have been a volunteer firefighter since 1983 and a police officer since 1986.” Kusminsky previously worked for the Town of Durham Police Department before working as a New York State Trooper. Kusminsky also graduated from Catskill High School and attended Columbia-Greene Community College and SUNY Buffalo. Benoit also has local ties. "After high school, I went to work for the Cairo Police Department and attended the Kingston Municipal Police Training Course,” Benoit said. “I was the first woman ever hired by the Cairo Police Department. After Cairo PD, I was employed by the New York State Capitol Police and eventually hired by the New York State Police.” Greene County Republicans committee members vote on candidates February 27 at the Greene County Courthouse.
