Democrat Barrett joins local Republicans voting against eviction moratorium
May 09, 2021 4:04 am
While the New York Assembly voted 89-to-59 last week to extend the COVID-19 Emergency Eviction Moratorium, all three local Assemblymembers voted against the measure. Republicans Jake Ashby and Chris Tague, and Democrat Didi Barrett, all voted against continuing to protect tenants in a fragile economy during a global pandemic. The measure extends the current moratorium through August 31, 2021. The vote came a week after 20 to 25 protesters from Hudson and Catskill gathered at Barrett's Hudson office to voice their concerns about the need for the extension of the eviction moratorium. The extension was signed into law last week by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
