Greene County inks deal to build solar farm

Kate Seckinger is reporting in The Daily Mail Greene County has entered into a contract with Solar City to install a solar farm on approximately 20 acres of county-owned property located in the town of Cairo. Construction is expected to begin with the spring thaw and will be completed before the end of the year. Greene County Administrator Shaun Groden said the annual savings for the county is expected to be between $150,000 to $180,000. Groden said, “Every kilowatt of power generated is being placed on the grid for National Grid or Central Hudson to use, and then they credit us that value of the electricity.” Solar City projects the six-figure savings to the county will remain consistent for approximately 20 years.
