The COVID-19 numbers continue to go up around the Capital Region and Hudson Valley. On Nov. 16, Rensselaer County was the record-breaker, with 38 new cases, the highest single-day total for cases. Previously, the highest total in Rensselaer County was 32 cases in one day, set Nov. 13. In Albany County there were 68 positive cases of COVID-19 announced Nov. 16. More schools are dealing with coronavirus, with Cohoes Elementary School reporting a case, and Red Hook High School switching to online-only instruction until Nov. 30. And Ulster County added a Rapid Mobile Testing Vehicle in its fight against COVID-19. There were deaths from the disease announced in both Greene and Columbia Counties, and nine new cases announced Nov. 16 in both Columbia County, and Greene County. Greene County has been blaming its cases on the Greene Correctional Facility in Coxsackie, and Columbia County Director of Public Health Jack Mabb agreed Nov. 16 in an interview with WGXC. Meanwhile, officials at Cairo-Durham schools are blaming Greene County health officials for misinformation in reporting a high school students case. "The Greene County Department of Health provided misinformation over the weekend regarding the positive COVID-19 case at CDHS," school officials posted on their website. "The positive test occurred a few days prior to the District being notified, which means the contact tracing list must extend further back in time than initially determined by the DOH. As such, there may be additional staff and/or students required to quarantine."
