Greene Co. census response lagging

The Greenville Pioneer is reporting the U.S. Census Bureau is sending reminder notices to roughly 55 million households nationwide that have not yet responded to the 2020 Census. According to the bureau’s online response map that is tracking participation, almost 79 million households have already responded by phone, by mail or online. States with the highest response rate include Minnesota (64 percent); Iowa 61.2 percent); Wisconsin (60.8 percent); Nebraska 60.7 percent); and, Michigan 60 percent. The response rate In New York is 53.5 percent. Greene County has a response rate of 32.9 percent, Columbia has a response rate of 44.9 percent and in Albany County, the rate is 50.3 percent. Households that have not yet participated will tentatively receive an in-person visit by a census taker to collect information later this summer, but some places where census takers were originally intended to personally hand-deliver forms will now receive a letter in the mail.
