Greene Co. EMS panel holds first meeting

Jan 08, 2014 7:53 am
Kyle Adams is reporting in The Daily Mail a task force appointed to study the implementation of a countywide ambulance system met for the first time Mon., Jan. 6, in Cairo. The proposed plan would consolidate the 10 town-based ambulance systems currently operating in Greene County into a single countywide ambulance service that would provide paramedic-level care. No town ambulance service currently employs paramedics. The Greene County Emergency Medical Services, a private nonprofit corporation, provides that service. Much of the task force’s work will focus on the number of ambulances needed to effectively cover the county and how much the service will cost. The yearly operating cost of such a service was estimated at $5.7 million. The work of the task force is supported by a $25,000 grant from the New York State Rural Health Network.
