The day ahead on WGXC 90.7-FM
12:05 a.m. Radio Stew: Brian Foo Interview with Brian Foo, programmer and visual artist, who has translated the EEG brainwave data of an anonymous female pediatric patient with epilepsy into a soundscape. “I have always had a personal fascination with what goes on in the brain, our most complex and distinguishing organ,” he explains in a blog post about his process. “I was interested in using music to produce empathy between two people, where the listener can ‘experience’ what might be going on in someone else's brain."
1 a.m.: Vital Weekly: Jim O'Rourke Episode 972 of weekly experimental new music show, by folks formerly behind Staalplaat. Click on title for playlist 972.
2 a.m.: FFFoxy Podcast: Nurse With Wound On episode #53 of the FFFoxy Podcast, we played and talked-up several noteworthy reissue/archival-related titles by the likes of Ghedalia Tazartès, Phil Yost, Pip Proud, Aine O’Dwyer and more. We also dipped into the stacks of tapes that we’ve received in recent months to pull out some of our favorites. We’ve been particularly fascinated by the pulverizing electronic shenanigans of Mark Dicker, the sparse late-night songs of Obody, the woozy sound collages of Sumbu Dunia (and the entirety of the new Noumenal Loom tape batch), and the dreamy guitar drift of Cloudsound. On top of that, we spun the latest vinyl offerings from Sean McCann and Tracey Trance, both brilliant in their own unique way. There’s much, much more that we’re enthusiastic about within this episode (all of it, in fact), but we’ll let you give it a listen and see what you think. One thing is for certain: Yeast Culture makes for some strange back drop sounds during a talk break! Hope you enjoy this episode. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or comments.
5:20 a.m.: The RAIN Report: POW Russell Hutchinson Dave Cripe/NM0S tells the story behind WW2 POW Russell Hutchinson, Radio Boy.
