Nominations for statewide teaching awards now open

Feb 12, 2019 12:45 pm
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Feb. 11, nominations and applications are now open for the Empire State Excellence in Teaching Award. The program recognizes teachers statewide who exemplify the highest standards of teaching, working to foster creativity, instill a love of learning, and inspire independent thinking and student initiative. Last year, a total of 58 winners were selected from all 10 regions of the state. "This program helps recognize the best of the best - the teachers who go above and beyond for their students to provide them the resources they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond," Cuomo said in a written statement released by his office. Honorees receive a $5,000 stipend to support their professional development interests. They will also be invited to meet with university, workforce and policy leaders to share their expertise and insights. Applications will be evaluated by a panel comprised of members of several New York professional education associations. The application deadline is Mar. 8.
