Rachel Silberstein reports in the Albany Times Union that on Dec. 3 Gov. Andrew Cuomo extended New York's property tax exemption on certain farm buildings another 10 years. The tax measure exempts agricultural producers from paying real property tax on buildings that for production of agricultural or horticultural products. Temporary greenhouses, dairy barns, and exercise arenas for horse-boarding operations all qualify for exemptions for another decade after Cuomo signed the measure. "New York's agricultural industry is a major sector of our economy, and it's critical that we continue to support local farmers and growers," Cuomo said in a statement. "This tax exemption will help New York's hard-working agricultural producers invest in their farms and grow their businesses, and as a result increase competitiveness and productivity for years to come."
