Emilia Teasdale reports in The Columbia Paper that the Valatie village board is talking about changing the code on maintaining sidewalks and who is responsible for repairing them at their March 12 meeting. Currently, property owners are responsible for repairing sidewalks but the sidewalks are owned by the village. At the meeting, Trustee Frank Bevens said the law's wording did not make that clear. Mayor Diane Argyle said, “I agree that this is a lousy code and we’ll discuss it." But change may take awhile. A new law would need to be drafted and reviewed the by the village attorney, and any changes to the zoning code require a public hearing. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
