DEC announces NY 2019 bear take

The Greenville Pioneer is reporting the state Department of Environmental Conservation recently announced the bear take for the 2019 hunting season. A total of 1,505 black bears were taken by New York hunters statewide. In the Southern Zone, a record 1,179 bears were killed, far exceeding the 5-year average of 1,022. But in the Northern Zone, just 326 bears were taken, the fewest killed in the North Country since 2011. In Greene County, a total of 70 bears were reported killed. The town of Hunter had the most in the county with 13 bears. The town of Catskill was second with nine bears killed, and Durham and Windham came in third place with eight bears taken in each of those towns. Read the full story in the Greenville Pioneer.
