Oct 02, 2020 6:00 am
Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Greene County Office Building on Main Street in Catskill was ordered closed at noon October 1, after a county employee tested positive for COVID-19. The building will remain closed until October 5, according to a statement issued by county officials. The employee, who is under quarantine, is asymptomatic, according to the statement. The unidentified woman is an employee in the Buildings and Grounds Department, Legislature Chairperson Patrick Linger said. “It’s more being cautious than anything else,” Linger said. “[The employee] didn’t have a lot of contact with employees and the public other than her department.” Three or four other employees were placed in quarantine, Linger said, adding that testing will be available October 2, to all 200 county employees who work in the building and who wish to be tested. Linger said he did not think additional positives would keep the building closed. The entire building will be sanitized over the weekend. Currently, all county employees have their temperatures taken and are screened with a questionnaire at the beginning of each work day, Linger said. All in-person appointments, including the Department of Motor Vehicles, are canceled through Friday, and will be rescheduled. During the closure, to request an absentee ballot, visit absenteeballot [dot] elections [dot] ny [dot] gov; to reach the on-call worker for the Department of Social Services in the event of an emergency, call 518-622-3548.
