Work on community center underway
Aug 13, 2019 1:15 pm
The Ghent Community Action Network is reporting on activities in the town of Ghent. State Assemblywoman Didi Barrett, working with town officials, has secured a state grant to renovate the West Ghent Community Center. The tennis courts, the indoor and outdoor basketball courts, and the shuffleboard court are being refurbished, and the town park courts will now have one pickleball court. The work is expected to be completed in two weeks. During the next phase, a new heating system, new kitchen and bathroom flooring and a new water system will be installed. The Zoning Review Committee met in late June and a revised draft of the laws has now been circulated to the committee for review. Once that review is complete, the draft will go to the Ghent Town Board, the planning board, the Zoning Board of Appeals and the county for review and comment. A second public hearing will eventually be scheduled. Ghent CAN is also reporting the repairs to the Route 66 bridge are on schedule and are expected to be completed before the Labor Day weekend. Finally, 75 percent of Ghent residents now have access to broadband service. Town officials are asking those who may still be struggling to get connected to reach out for help by calling town hall at (518) 392-4644. Read the full story at the Ghent CAN Facebook page.
