Former Woodstock 50 financier accused of 'treachery,' sabotage

May 08, 2019 1:00 pm
Patricia Doxsey is reporting for the Daily Freeman on the continued drama around Woodstock 50. Promoter Michael Lang has accused Dentsu Inc., the former financier of the summer music festival of "treachery," claiming the firm illegally announced the cancellation of the concert, moved $17 million from the festival's bank account and tried to sabotage the event by urging vendors and other involved parties to violate their contracts and back out of the festivities. The accusations were outlined in a sharply worded five-page letter May 6, from Lang to Toshihiro Yamamoto, president and CEO of Dentsu."These actions are neither a legal nor honorable way to do business," Lang wrote. But despite Dentsu's actions, the anniversary concert will go on as planned, Lang said. Woodstock 50, schedule for Aug. 16 through18 will take place at the Watkins Glen International Speedway to mark the 50th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival, held in August 1969 in Bethel, Sullivan County.
