Republicans have many seats to fill
Dec 12, 2019 12:48 am
Nick Reisman reports for New York State of Politics that with eight of 23 Republican state senators not running for reelection next year, Senate Minority Leader John Flanagan was bombarded with questions Dec. 11 about GOP electoral chances in 2020. “I’ve been here 33 years. I’ve spent 19 of 33 years in the minority,” Flanagan said. “I know what it means to be in the minority. I know what it means to fight, to claw back, to get things done.” But in a presidential election year with Democrats determined to remove the commander-in-chief, they don't agree with Flanagan. “Every day we see another Republican Senator abandon the sinking ship and announce their retirement,” said Mike Murphy, a spokesperson for the Senate Democrats. “Having no money, no candidates, and no ideas is a bad combination.” Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins predicted Dec. 9 that Democrats would pick up at least three seats next year. George Amedore, who represents Greene and Schoharie counties, is among the Republicans not trying to retain their seat in 2020. Read more about this story at New York State of Politics.
