Two Greene County residents have been sentenced for personal income tax fraud, according to a statement released by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, Wed., Dec. 4. Melissa Carter and Mark Young, both of Tannersville, pled guilty to falsifying tax returns. Carter and Young were sentenced to time already served in jail and ordered to pay nearly $10,000 in restitution. Young created M&W Auto, a company that did not actually exist. He and Carter then issued phony W2s for earnings to fictional employees. The pair then filed personal income tax returns with the fake documentation and received tax refunds.
