Mar 22, 2019 1:30 pm
Columbia-Greene Media is reporting longtime Hudson 5th Ward Alderman Robert "Doc" Donahue died March 19. Donahue served in the post for 24 years, after being elected for the first time in 1993. The lifelong Hudson resident and retired mail carrier held the seat until 2017. When honored by the Common Council that year, Donahue paid tribute to former mayor Rick Scalera, who convinced him to run for office after retirement. “I owe a debt of gratitude to a man that I can never repay,” he said. “I didn’t want to run for office but Scalera was a great politician as well as a salesman. He convinced me.” Donahue, 80, was born in Albany. He was a 1955 graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Hudson. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy and went on to work for the US Postal Service. Donahue was legendary for his commitment to the community, as an elected official and as a volunteer driver, deliveryman and umpire. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Mon., March 25, at St. Mary’s Parish in Hudson. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
