Town board turns down tennis courts offer

Jun 10, 2015 6:51 am
Gail Heinsohn is reporting in the Chatham Courier the Chatham Town Board Mon., Jun. 8, rejected Adam Slone’s Life Serve Youth Foundation’s offer to build tennis courts at Crellin Park. Slone made the offer after neighbors opposed construction of the courts on his own property on Thomas Road. On Tuesday, Supervisor Jesse DeGroodt [DEE-groot] told the paper there was a general feeling on the board that to approve Slone's proposal would have been virtually the same as taking a bribe. DeGroodt said Slone will now revert to the original application. A hearing on Slone’s request for a hardship waiver from the town's 12-month moratorium on special use permits for land along dirt roads will be held June 24 at the North Chatham Firehouse. According to plans provided to the Zoning Board, Slone seeks to build a “sleep-away tennis camp for under-privileged youth.” Read the full story in the Chatham Courier.
