The End of Television

2009
Ian Page

Page writes:"The digital television transition in the United States was the switchover from analog to digital broadcasting of free over-the-air television programming. By the end of June 12th all analog stations in the US had to shut off their analog transmission, as ordered by congress.

The End of Television is a video program put together for analog broadcast TV. Through an open submission process we collected 17 hours of video from artists all around the world. On the night of June 12th, as all analog transmissions were fading, we turned on our analog transmitter and broadcast the video program. Seizing a moment where the country was particularly aware of TV, The End of Television attempted to be the last remaining analog TV station in the US. Using a restricted and obsolete medium, The End of Television re-imagined the omnipresent idea of "broadcast yourself."

The program was shown on 40+ televisions at the Nerve Gallery in Pittsburgh and the show was opened with a broadcast and performance by tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE's Histrionic Thought Experiment Cooperative (HiTEC)."
