Jazz talkin' on WGXC this week

"The Jazz Disturbance" and "Between the Lines" on WGXC feature interviews this week and next with the artists, educators, and performers in two local jazz camps. On Thursday, June 21, host Cheryl K. on "The Jazz Disturbance" (7-9:30 p.m. Thursdays at 90.7-FM) speaks with young artists and educators of The Catskill Jazz Factory’s one-week residency program in The Catskill Jazz Factory’s program at the Orpheum Performing Arts Center in Tannersville, that begins on Mon., June 18. The Catskill Jazz Factory, with the support of Friends of The Orpheum (FOTO) and the Catskill Mountain Foundation, is a new non-profit program dedicated to jazz performance, heritage, artistry, and educational outreach. All workshops and rehearsals at the Orpheum are open to the public for observation and free of charge. The week will culminate in a live concert featuring Artistic Director and pianist Aaron Diehl and the Catskill Jazz Factory Sat., June 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Orpheum Performing Arts Center. On Thu., June 28, artist manager/educator/ LVanHart Artist Productions Director Laura Hartmann and producer/engineer/bassist Malcolm Cecil will be live in the WGXC Hudson studio talking about the Saugerties Performing Arts Factory (SPAF) Summer Jazz Camp that begins on Monday, July 9. The camp will offer three different two-week courses: Jazz Improv Workshop, Small Ensemble Workshop, and Guitar Ensemble. That program concludes on Fri., July 20 at SPAF in Saugerties, with a public concert that includes both students and faculty. Also on Thu., June 21, Ann Forbes Cooper on her WGXC program "Between the Lines" (2 p.m. at 90.7-FM) interviews jazz pianist Aaron Diehl, and Crouch has written about jazz for years. All three are forces behind the Catskill Jazz Factory. Cooper talks to them about the week-long program and that live show June 23, at the Orpheum Performing Arts Center in Tannersville.
