Catskill vote will be held despite storm

Feb 12, 2019 7:45 am
Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Catskill Central School District announced Feb. 11, the polls at Catskill Middle School will be open Tue., Feb. 12, despite the schools being closed and the imminent snowstorm, thus leaving the fate of district's $40.8 million capital project in the hands of those who brave the weather. Catskill School Superintendent Ronel Cook hopes the weather will not affect the turnout. “I believe that our community will come out to vote regardless of the inclement weather conditions...We have a very supportive community who understands that our buildings and facilities need to be repaired and brought up to compliance and 21st-century standards,” Cook said. Proposed improvements include upgrades to academic programs, classrooms, buildings, security controls, roads, parking lots and athletic fields. Seventy percent of the funding for the nearly $41 million project would come through New York State Building Aid, with the remainder covered by the district, specifically $4 million in cash set aside from the capital reserves and approximately $8.5 million to be paid by taxpayers over a 15-year period. Polls are open 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Catskill Middle School, 345 West Main Street, Catskill. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
