Local drive-ins can open, but Greene County theaters are not ready yet

On May 11, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced at his daily briefing that as of May 15, drive-in movie theaters will be allowed to open. Locally, though, both Greene County drive-ins are not taking advantage of that news yet. Coxsackie's Hi-Way Drive-In posted on Facebook that it is not ready to open. "We will not be opening immediately as we are awaiting proper procedures and guidelines to keep everyone safe and healthy," the Coxsackie movie theatre posted on Facebook. The Greenville Drive-In posted on Facebook that it is also not opening yet. "Yes, we are aware that the Greenville Drive-In *could* re-open on May 15. However, we will not be doing so. We are still working on 'Best Practice Procedures' to keep our guests and our staff safe. These procedures are dependent on delayed supplies and detailed official guidance. When we have what we need on hand, we will *gently* re-open to the public." And since Hollywood is not releasing any movies, there is a question about what they might show even if the local theaters opened. The Jericho Drive-In in Albany County posted that, "we are going to work all week long to make sure that we can open this Friday" when they will screen "Onward" and "The Call of the Wild."
