Seeley resigns from Catskill Village Board

Jan 14, 2021 6:00 am

Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Catskill Village President Vincent Seeley is walking away from his seat on the village board after a four-month absence. Seeley was elected to his fifth term on the board in March 2019. After being away last year, he said he would return to the position, explaining that he had been traveling out of state for a new business venture. Seeley was unavailable for comment January 13. Likewise, his board colleagues, Joseph Kozloski, Natasha Law and Greg Smith, were mum, declining comment until after the scheduled board meeting January 13. Peter Grasse did not respond to queries. Trustees are paid $8,000 per year, according to the 2020-21 village budget. Former Catskill Town Supervisor Doreen Davis, who worked with Seeley on several projects throughout the years, wished him well. She said, “We were on the phone frequently, problem solved together, worked through challenges and opportunities related to sewer, water, fire protection and all the things that are a part of local municipalities. I think what I appreciated most was his temperament. ... Vinny was a good partner and has served Catskill well for a good long time. I wish him the best.” Because of the timing of the resignation, the position would not appear on the ballot until a year from this March, so the board will have to appoint someone to fill the seat until then.
