Jul 31, 2018 12:03 pm
David Lombardo reports in the Albany Times Union that Halfmoon Republican Daphne Jordan and Brunswick Democrat Aaron Gladd to replace retiring state Sen. Kathy Marchione in the 43rd Senate District, which includes Columbia County and parts of Rensselaer, Washington, and Saratoga counties. Lombardo writes that the two "are divided on abortion, speak about gun control in divergent terms, prioritize different issues and have competing visions for the state Senate." Jordan has been Marchione's legislative director for the last six years and Gladd has had a two-year fellowship in the state Senate with the late Republican Sen. Tom Libous, and three years as a deputy director of policy for Gov. Andrew Cuomo. He also served in the Armyfirst lieutenant and ground-combat platoon leader in Afghanistan. Jordan says, "Anything that begins to infringe on our Second Amendment rights I'm not in favor of. You start chipping and chipping away until then there is nothing." That includes the governor's "Red Flag" bill, which would let a court to determine if certain individuals were too dangerous to possess a firearm. Gladd said, "When I think about guns, though, I'm not thinking about the Second Amendment. I'm thinking about gun safety." Read the full story in the Albany Times Union.
