Abby Hoover and Nora Mishanec are reporting for Columbia-Greene Media there have been no positive cases of coronavirus at Bliss Towers, Columbia Apartments in Hudson or at Hop-o-Nose in Catskill, said Tim Mattice, executive director of the Hudson Housing Authority and interim executive director of the Catskill Housing Authority. “Fortunately, we are very lucky in the sense that we haven’t had any issues to date,” Mattice said April 13. “I think that’s because of quick response that the board and the administration took as soon as this coronavirus outbreak really started to pick up momentum.” Residents of high-density living facilities, such as nursing homes and public housing complexes, are at considerable risk for COVID-19 transmission, according to state health officials. As the virus began to spread upstate, administrators at Bliss Towers and at Hop-o-Nose moved to close the community spaces in both facilities, including the playgrounds, basketball courts and common rooms, Mattice said. The Bliss Towers staff is disinfecting the entire building during the day and into the evening hours, he said. There has been no direct focus on testing at Bliss Towers. Residents experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 have been advised to contact their doctors or the Columbia County Department of Health and alert them that they live at the high rise.
