Supervisor wants better bus service
Jun 12, 2018 1:40 pm
Jeanette Wolfberg reports in The Columbia Paper that at least one Columbia County Supervisor wants the county's bust stops to have signs so that citizens can tell they are bus stops. Supervisor Michael Chameides (D-Hudson, 3rd Ward) said, “I would like to see something that says: 1. ‘This is a bus stop;’ 2. ‘Here is a picture of its bus route(s);’ 3. ‘These are the days and times the bus stops here.’” Currently, Columbia County has buses that go between Hudson and Albany on Mondays through Fridays, shuttles between Hudson and the shopping centers on Fairview Avenue in Greenport on Mondays through Saturdays, other buses that visit a different part of the county one day a week heading to Hudson in the morning and returning in the afternoon, and vehicles that travel between Philmont and Hudson and Columbia Greene Community College three days a week. “People want more service," Chameides said. "But that must be balanced with cost. I would like to see more buses and a greater frequency. The challenge is to get support from the county and the taxpayers.” Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
