Marie J. French reports at Politico that in 2015 Gov. Andrew Cuomo made a bold announcement about protecting the environment with a multi-state effort to get around the federal government's lack of committment. Then, nothing much happened. Now, this past September, Cuomo again vowed to support a multi-state alliance to develop innovative solutions to cut carbon emissions tackle climate issues. Some environmentalists, such as Adrienne Esposito from the Citizens Campaign for the Environment, believe Cuomo's promises. “We need state leadership in the absence of federal leadership, and New York has the ability and the responsibility to lead the nation,” she said. “The last two years have really caused the governor to emerge as an environmental leader.” Others are a bit more skeptical. “There’s been just a steady stream of commitments on his part that have not only positioned the state in the forefront of climate leadership but positioned him as someone who is serious about tackling climate change,” said Sierra Club’s Lisa Dix. “So I do think that he has a strong position — if he is able to make good on all his promises and these promises get implemented and enforced.” Read the full story at Politico.
