Greenville puts brakes on skateboard park

Sep 02, 2019 11:43 pm
Melanie Lekocevic reports for Capital Region Independent Media in the Greenville Pioneer that the skateboard park the Town of Greenville has been discussing installing may not happen after all. "My concern is that we had interest until we started requiring a little bit of commitment from the parents who realized this is a large undertaking," Town Councilman Joel Rauf said. "The volunteerism for this project is a concern of mine, and the exposure that will have as a town if there is not a big commitment from volunteers." The town board will spend between $280 and $380 a year for insurance if the skateboard park is approved, with the ramps and other equipment donated by the town of Westerlo. "It‘s a great idea, but who is going to roll up their sleeves and do the work?" Town Supervisor Paul Macko said. Now the town is looking for volunteers to cut brush and clear the site for the park. "Until I hear parents saying, 'We want to go now and we will bring 15 kids on Saturday to start the project,‘ I think we should at least be careful," Rauf said.
