Evenings at the Village Gate, John Coltrane with Eric Dolphy (Impulse Records, 2023)

Evenings at the Village Gate, John Coltrane with Eric Dolphy (Impulse Records, 2023). From impulserecords.com. (Sep 26, 2023)

Hosted by Rob Saffer.

After the local news at noon, eleven lost and found posthumous John Coltrane recordings released over the past three decades. Coming just days after what would have been Trane’s 97th birthday, this show celebrates his music primarily through live recordings (including two with Thelonious Monk), as well as a few lost studio tapes that were rediscovered and released between 1993 and 2023. “Overlooked” is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird. Live from the shadow of Overlook Mountain in Ulster County.
