Nick Reisman reports in New York State of Politics that there has been little discussion about ethics reform in the current legislative session, even with an ongoing corruption trial, and recent convictions for corruption among Albany politicians. “I think because it is in New York City and because we are in the process of the budget hearings, the budget negotiations are overshadowing this trial by a longshot,” said League of Women Voters Legislative Director Jennifer Wilson about the current corruption trial of Joe Percoco, a former aide to Governor Andrew Cuomo. “Every year, we talk about cleaning up Albany. Every year we are waiting for something to happen, and each year, the other side, frankly, does nothing,” said Senate Minority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. She is promising if the Democrats take the Senate after April 24 special elections, to push through ethics reforms.
