Route 22 in Canaan slated for repairs this summer
Feb 18, 2020 1:30 pm
Peter Flierl is reporting for The Columbia Paper the state Department of Transportation has announced it will complete the repaving of state Route 22 in Canaan, just north of the Trembler Property Association, where two miles of roadway southward to the Interstate 90 interchange was repaved last summer. The announcement was made at the February 10, Canaan Town Board meeting. Also at that meeting, the board announced the town Highway Department will pave 10 intersections along the same route, piggy backing on the working being done by the DOT contractor. The Canaan repaving is expected to begin in early summer. In other business, Highway Superintendent Bernie Meyer noted the department has used 475 tons of sand with the last storm, illustrating the challenge presented by rain, freezing, snow, more rain, and slick roads. Canaan is well beyond last year in its use of sand. Also, the state DOT and CSX railroad now agree that Flint’s Crossing by the truck stop along I-90 is dangerous. Signs measuring 2-by-3 feet will be installed warning truckers of “No Parking” and “No Standing,” and those prohibitions will be rigorously enforced. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
