Siena poll: More than half back casino amendment

Oct 22, 2013 7:14 am
The Associated Press is reporting a new poll shows a majority of New York voters support an amendment to the state Constitution to expand casino gambling. The Siena College poll released Mon., Oct. 21, found 56 percent of the respondents said they would vote yes when they were read the measure that will be on the Nov. 5 ballot, compared to 40 percent who would vote no. The amendment would allow up to seven non-Indian-owned, Las Vegas-style casinos in three regions of New York state. The Catskills region could get as many as two. Critics have claimed the wording of the ballot measure improperly crosses over into advocacy because it promises jobs, more school aid and lower taxes. The poll was conducted Oct. 14 to Oct. 16.
