Marcelle nominated to be federal judge

Oct 13, 2018 12:18 am
Robert Gavin reports in the Albany Times Union that on Oct. 10 President Donald Trump nominated Thomas Marcelle, a Capital Region lawyer, to be the area's next federal judge, in the 32-county Northern District of New York. Marcelle, 56, lives in Slingerlands, and is enrolled in the Conservative Party. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Marcelle would fill the vacancy of Judge Gary Sharpe. In 2008, President George W. Bush, near the end of his term, nominated Marcelle for the bench but Democrats in the Senate did not confirm him. Marcelle became Cohoes city judge in 2016, after being the Albany County attorney since 2012. From 2002 to 2011, he worked as counsel for the county legislature's Republican minority.
