Melanie Lekocevic is reporting for Capital Region Independent Media TCI of New York unveiled its new 35,000 square foot facility at the Coeymans Industrial Park last week. The expanded facility will allow TCI to increase the services it provides. TCI advertises itself as a "one-stop management solution for recycling, disposal and repair of transformers and other oil-filled electrical equipment." The company was founded 55 years ago by two Hungarian immigrants. “Today we celebrate the opening of our new building and the dedication of one of the greatest men I have ever known,” company president Brian Hemlock said of co-founder Gaby Newmark at the start of the dedication ceremony. “He was a great partner, friend and mentor.” Newmark died in April at age 88. TCI built its first plant in Coeymans in 2014, after a massive chemical fire destroyed its 30,000-square-foot facility on Falls Industrial Road in West Ghent on August 1, 2012. A report issued following a state investigation alleged the company was processing transformer oils containing PCBs at a higher level than it was allowed to handle. During the past six years in Coeymans the company has more than tripled the number of local employees. The company also works with Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School and Capital Region BOCES to train students. Coeymans Town Supervisor George McHugh welcomed the company’s expansion. “It’s a great day for TCI, a great day for Coeymans,” McHugh said. Republican Assemblymember Chris Tague attended the event and spoke to the crowd. “...I am certain TCI will continue to grow and help the community grow with them as G&S companies have been doing for decades,” he said.
