Nov 13, 2014 12:10 am
Casey Seiler is reporting at Capitol Confidential state Assembly member Karim Camara is planning a Thursday (Nov. 13) news conference to raise awareness of the Sugar-Sweetened Beverages Safety Warning Act. The legislation, if passed, would require health warning labels on certain beverages with added sugar. The warning label would read, “Safety Warning: Drinking beverages with added sugar contributes to obesity, Diabetes and tooth decay.” The bill excludes beverages containing 100 percent natural fruit or vegetable juice with no added caloric sweeteners, dietary aids or infant formula and beverages where milk is the principle ingredient. As with current warning labels on nicotine products and advertising, the size of the warning label would be dictated by the size of the drink.
