DEC considering new solid waste regs

The Altamont Enterprise reports that the Department of Environmental Conservation is taking public comments about the state’s Solid Waste Management Regulations, commonly known as Part 360, through July 21. All solid waste management facilities in New York State operate under the rules. There are several new proposals for the public to write comments about including:
• Strengthening prohibitions on the disposal of flowback water and production brine from oil and gas production;
• Tracking for construction and demolition debris and fill material;
• New regulations for producing and storing mulch.
There is a public hearing at 1 p.m. July 13, at at DEC’s headquarters at 625 Broadway in Albany and comments may also be emailed to SolidWasteRegulations@dec.ny.gov until 5 p.m. on July 21.
