The Greenville Pioneer is reporting local sales tax collections continued to climb in 2018, growing for the third year in a row, according to a report recently released by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. Collections statewide grew by $872 million, or 5.3 percent. In Greene County, sales tax collection grew 4.67 percent from 2017 to 2018, up to nearly $33 million. Local sales tax collections grew at a faster pace in 2018 than in recent years, boosting local revenues, DiNapoli said. Every region in the state saw an increased annual growth rate in sales tax collections in each of the last three years, except for the Finger Lakes. Year-over-year growth was especially strong in several upstate regions, including the Southern Tier, the North Country and the Mohawk Valley. The Mid-Hudson region saw collections grow by 5.1 percent in 2018. Collections grew in 55 of the 57 counties outside of New York City. Read the full story in the Greenville Pioneer.
